God, you tell us in scripture that your love is like a mother hen who gives safety, security and comfort to her children. Today we honor the closest thing we get to experience to that love you speak of in that passage, we honor our mothers.
But, the love of our mothers come in all different ways. So this morning we want to meditate on all of the mothers whether that be biological, adoptive, step, spiritual or grandmothers who have given us glimpses of your love, God.
Let us remember the mothers who raised us.
For them, we give thanks.
Let us remember the spiritual mothers who took us in when some of us lost our mothers.
For them, we are grateful.
Let us remember those who did not grow up with a mother, but had other mothers guide them along their journey.
For them, we see a love that knows no boundaries.
Let us remember those who cannot have kids of their own, but are still mothers to so many.
May they remember the impact they continue to have.
Let us remember those mothers who have adopted.
May they continue to show us unconditional love through their lives.
Let us remember the mothers who struggle and who have experienced great pain.
May they find comfort.
Let us remember the mothers who have lost children.
May you sit with them in that hurt and give the comfort.
Let us remember the mothers who have given us a strong foundation.
May we make them proud.
Let us remember the mothers who are too hard on themselves.
May you help them be kind and gentle to themselves, God.
Let us remember the mothers who bring joy and laughter.
May we be joyful and laugh along with them.
Let us remember the mothers who give us courage when we don’t have any on our own.
May we give thanks daily.
Finally, may we remember all those, anyone who shows that motherly love you talk about in Scripture as symbolic of your love: Remind us that your love is like a mother hen who gives safety, security and comfort to her children.
And God, help us be grateful for all who have been mothers for us.
